Our corrupt president and his wealthy chums are predatory gangsters, bullies who tell lies, greed mongers who want to own all the resources of our country and those of our closest neighbors and former allies. They perform cruel cuts with no respect for millions of Americans, acting out of unfathomable stupidity, selfishness and carelessness. Dare we say they are – Dick Traitors? This bizarre insanity is making a garbage dump of our world, returning a global balance into the hands of authoritarian forces.

When insanity is in charge, everybody loses. We are certainly dealing with irretrievably broken minds. 

The Bully tells you the hat he just stole from your head is actually his.

The Bully insists there is no truth or fact, but only his interpretation of shared reality.

The Bully attempts to tell you what to see and what to think if you want to win his favor.

The Bully seeks to hide his weaknesses and present an illusion of strength in  order to gain power over you and all you hold dear.

Those who proclaim on the side of the bully have sold their souls, betrayed their own eyes and ears, cowardly allowed themselves to be corrupted and complicit in the process, condemning their fellow human beings to erasure.

It's happening fast - the elimination of constraints, the dismantling of checks and balances, siding with dictators, coopting of the Armed Forces, sidelining the media, salivating over other people's land and resources, putting the woefully inept in charge of government, attempting to defund colleges & universities, disappearing individuals they do not agree with. Too many formerly responsible politicians have bought into the insanity. This is not a mandate, but a coup. "We're in a hostile government takeover." 

Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell, Chris Hayes, Masha Gessen, Timothy Snyder, Ruth Ben-Giat, Adam Kinzinger, Robert Reich, Paul Krugman and many others.... are some of the wiser folks writing and broadcasting about this major alteration of the course of the nation, the world. It is moving fast and the avenues to shutting it down are narrowing.

How to cope with feelings of helplessness and potential loss, especially when you are no longer fit to physically protest? 

Take good care of your body and your loved ones. Put a little more energy towards healing acts and generosity. Hold on to what you personally know to be true and stop being taken in by the damaging propaganda that is making an attempt to brain wash you towards an evil purpose of unchecked power over you. Most of all don’t sit back and give in.

As for me, largely homebound, I have reached a stage where in order to accomplish much of what truly needs doing, I have to begin to limit what I choose to do. This applies to eating and watching - both means by which I take things in, representing an enjoyment of living. 

As the Elaine Stritch song goes:

     Are you having any fun?

     What you getting out of living?

     Who cares for what you've got if you're not having any fun?

     Are you having any laughs?

     Are you getting any loving?

     If other people do, why can't you? Have a little fun!

The dire prospect of trying to curtail both eating delicious food and accessing literally hundreds of movies and series, shuts me down, so I cling to my body growing wider instead of wiser. There was a time when my disciplines would kick in and I could easily bring my body into shape, but those days disappeared as my 70's did. Now, at 82, with this attack on our very democracy, there is a hopeless embrace of the lumps which seem to prevail over informed better practices. 

Do I accept what I have become? Or work to achieve a better result through engaging the powerful forces of personal change? This is my current dilemma as the world comes to grips with the latest wanna be dictator. 

Meantime I have found a little comfort from animated films like Flow, Sing, Sing 2, Leo, and have also revisited classics such as Ratatouille and Wall-E. 

When reality has become a cartoon world, why not?!
